2 tuberculosis cases identified in Kandiyohi County
WILLMAR - Kandiyohi County's public health department is working with two active tuberculosis cases that have a connection to the Willmar Senior High School.
The cases are currently being treated and there is no further risk of exposure at the school, the public health department said in statement issued Tuesday.
There's currently nothing to suggest that the two cases are connected, public health officials said.
Contact investigations are being performed by local public health staff working under the guidance of the Minnesota Department of Health. Public health is working with close contacts to assure they receive appropriate screening.
Broad screening for tuberculosis is not recommended at this time. Letters have been sent to high school families informing parents and providing information.
Tuberculosis can be contagious but is not easy to catch. The bacteria causing the disease is typically spread by prolonged contact with an infectious person over a period of time. There is minimal risk to the general public.
