Firefighters are shown Thursday night, April 10, 2014, at the scene of a fire at the Todd Heideman farm west of Adrian, Minn. A 10-year-old girl died in the blaze.

ADRIAN, Minn. -- A 10-year-old girl was found dead Thursday evening after a bale fire on a farm west of Adrian in southwestern Minnesota.

The Adrian Fire Department responded at 6:50 p.m. Thursday to a report of round bales on fire at the Todd Heideman farm.

The body of Perri Heideman was discovered after firefighters extinguished the blaze.

“The Adrian Fire Department, assisted by the Ellsworth Fire Department, were working on putting out the fire, when a short time later the family noticed that Perri was missing,” said Nobles County Sheriff Kent Wilkening.

“We did a search of the property and didn’t find anything,” Wilkening said. “Once the fire was put out, the fire department started to search and take the bales apart, and they found her laying amongst the bales. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
