19-month-old child remains listed in critical condition; suspect in jail in Renville County
OLIVIA -- A 19-month-old Olivia child remains in critical condition at Children's Hospital in St. Paul and the suspect accused of injuring the child remains in custody at the Renville County Jail.
According to a news release from the Olivia Police Department, an Eighth Judicial District judge has granted an extension of the timeline allowed for filing criminal charges in the case. The suspect, whom authorities have not named publicly pending formal charges, is expected to be charged by Wednesday.
The person was arrested after authorities received a 911 call around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday that a child was unresponsive. The child was transported by ambulance to the Renville County Hospital, where it was determined the child had suffered "significant in-juries."
The child was later flown to Children's Hospital in St. Paul.
According to the news release, personnel from the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are now assisting in the investigation. The Police Department is also being assisted by the Renville County Sheriff's Office.
