WILLMAR -- A 22-year-old Pennock man made his first appearance Thursday in Kandiyohi County District Court on two sets of driving while impaired charges and a felony charge for possessing a weapon as a person convicted of a violent crime. According to the first complaint, a deputy was called to assist a Department of Natural Resources conservation officer.

The DNR officer, while checking fishing licenses, came upon a possible drunken driver at the Lake Calhoun boat access. The deputy found that Leuze exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. He failed field sobriety tests, registered a 0.10 blood-alcohol level on a breath test and was arrested and taken to the Law Enforcement Center.

The conservation officer found a loaded firearm in the vehicle. According to the court file, Leuze is an adjudicated delinquent for third-degree burglary in October 2003 and therefore not allowed to posses a firearm.

According to the second complaint, a deputy was on patrol near the intersection of County Road 25 and Long Lake Road, came upon a vehicle with expired license tabs and stopped the vehicle. The driver, Leuze, exhibited signs of alcohol consumption and failed field sobriety tests. He registered a 0.12 blood-alcohol level on a breath test and was again arrested and taken to the Law Enforcement Center.
