Update: Teen reportedly killed father before opening fire at S.C. school

$2.9M contract for Montevideo levee

MONTEVIDEO -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded a $2.9 million contract to Earthworks Technology, Inc. of Red Lake to build the stage 2 portion of the Montevideo flood control project, it announced Friday.

This portion of the project includes raising the existing levee at the wastewater treatment plant, placing rock riprap on the riverward slope and constructing a gate well, a pumping pit, manholes and a 24-inch reinforced concrete pipe.

This contract also includes construction of 1,100 feet of new levee, located behind the Trailways truck stop, constructing pump station 1 and installing 800 linear feet of steel sheet pile, 48-inch reinforced concrete pipe, two pumps and electric controls.

Minor site preparation work may begin this fall, with the majority of the construction work to be completed by November 2011.

The $15 million project will be built in three stages and is expected to be complete by 2013.
