The PACT for Families Collaborative said it has received a Medica Foundation grant that will support and expand Incredible Years parenting classes in Kandiyohi, Meeker, McLeod, Renville and Yellow Medicine Counties.

The one-year grant will increase the number of "Incredible Years" parent-training classes that gives parents strategies to manage behaviors such as aggressiveness, ongoing tantrums, and acting-out behavior such as swearing, whining, yelling, hitting, kicking, answering back and refusing to follow rules.

By using a range of strategies, parents help children regulate their emotions and improve their social skills so that they can get along better with peers and adults, and do better academically.

The intent of the grant is to offer at least one additional class in each of our five counties, making use of the existing network of trained instructors through public health, Head Start, and early childhood.
