Corey Meyer, 38, died of a gunshot wound northeast of Bluffton and northwest of Wadena in an area he had hunted for the past 12 years, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.

Meyer suffered extensive head trauma, but the sheriff's office ruled out a stray bullet from another hunter or foul play as causes of

death.

Authorizes said Meyer was moving through a heavily wooded area with thick underbrush toward a deer he had shot, and that his own gun fired the shot that hit him, according to a news release.

The incident was reported at 10:38 a.m. Sunday, and it remains under

investigation, the sheriff's office said.
