WILLMAR -- A Willmar man appeared on charges Wednesday for allegedly attempting to lure three young girls into his vehicle as they walked home from school Monday afternoon.
Jesus Diaz, 66, made his first court appearance Wed-nesday on two felony false imprisonment charges.
Unconditional bail was set at $100,000.
Conditional bail is $5,000 cash or house arrest on electronic alcohol monitoring. Diaz also faces two misdemeanor assault charges.
His next appearance in Kandiyohi County District Court is Oct. 11.
According to the complaint, Willmar police received a call around 3 p.m. Monday that a 10-year-old girl had come home and informed a parent that an older Hispanic male had gotten out of his vehicle, kissed two of her friends and then took off running.
An officer was dispatched to the Willmar Middle School area and another officer was sent to the caller's residence.
The girl told the officer she had seen the vehicle multiple times as she left school. She said the man, later identified as Diaz, got out of the car, spoke to the girls and tried to lure them into his car. She said he attempted to hug and kiss the girls and pull them into his vehicle, but that she was able to get away. The other girls were also able to run from the man, who followed them in his car until another vehicle pulled up behind him.
Information from the girls led officers to the apartment complex where Diaz resides. A vehicle description matched a car in the parking lot.
Diaz was located inside his apartment and was later identified by the girls.
