Morris/Chokio-Alberta came into the game with a little better conference record (8-3) compared to Benson (6-5), but the Braves brought in a better overall mark. Benson averaged about 10 more points per game but Morris/CA allowed about 10 fewer points per game.

One team, Benson, drew the South Sub-Section's No. 3 seed while Morris/CA was No. 2. But the opening-round games were a portent for where the long-time rivals were at this point in the season.

Benson made quick work of No. 6 seed St. John's Prep, winning by 17 points while the Tigers needed overtime to win by a point against No. 7 Eden Valley-Watkins.

On Saturday, the Braves led the Tigers by 20 at halftime and were never seriously threatened in the final 18 minutes, advancing to the sub-section finals with a 68-53 victory at St. John's University.

The Braves (18-9) play Litchfield (22-4) play at 6 p.m. Tuesday, at St. John's University in Collegeville.

The Braves' Logan Connelly scored a game-high 23 points and Sam Peterson was strong inside, with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 5 steals. Matt Ahrndt scored 16 points.

Benson shot 58 percent from the field and hit 8 of 14 3-point shots (57 percent). The Braves built a 41-21 halftime lead.

Morris/CA's Logan Manska scored 11 points, Brody Bahr scored 10 and Lincoln Berget and Riley Arndt both scored 9 points. The Tigers finished 16-11.
