Aaron Schafer June 24, 1922 - April 19, 2013
DANUBE - Aaron Schafer, age 90 of Danube, died Friday April 19, 2013, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services are Tuesday, April 23rd, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church in Danube with Rev. Dean Nosek officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is Monday 5-8 pm at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia. Visitation continues at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to services.
Aaron Elroy Schafer was born June 24, 1922 to Frank and Bertha (Miller) Schafer on a farm south of Danube, MN. He graduated from Danube High School and then farmed the home place. Aaron married June Fischer on June 26, 1946, at Zion Methodist Church in Danube. They farmed at rural Danube until 1960, at which time they moved into town. Aaron had worked for the Danube Farmers Elevator, Trojan Seed, Larry Schafus Trucking, and did volunteer driving for Renville County for many years, retiring in 2008. Aaron was a faithful member of Zion United Methodist Church. Aaron had enjoyed reading, visiting family, and will fondly be remember him as a generous and giving man.
Aaron is survived by his five children: Elaine and Kenny Wetzel of Spicer, Jenny and Terry Sorensen, of Lakeville, MN, Mary and Steve Strey of Bird Island, MN, Frank Schafer (and Candy Nash) of River Falls, WI and John and Deb Schafer, of Litchfield, MN; his daughter-in-law Joyce Schafer of Cottage Grove, MN his son-in-law Curt Huls (and wife Nalea) of Hutchinson; his eighteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and his sister Lorraine Kurtz. Aaron was preceded in death by his parents, his wife June, his son Calvin Schafer, his daughter LuAnn Huls, his brothers: Edwin Schafer, Eli Schafer, Ordean Schafer, and Delbert Schafer and his sister Alby Manthei.
