Accident releases anhydrous near Benson but no immediate danger

BENSON  -- An accident early today caused by a patch of ice resulted in the release of anhydrous ammonia from two tanks being pulled by a pickup just north of Benson.

The Swift County Sheriff's office says most of the product has been released and there is no emergency to the immediate area.

The accident was reported at about 6:47 a.m. one mile north of Benson on state Highway 29. A pickup pulling two 1,000-gallon anhydrous tanks struck a patch of ice on the bridge and rolled into the ditch.

Other agencies responding to the scene were Benson Fire Department, Benson Ambulance, Benson Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, and the Swift County Emergency Manager.
