The undefeated Falcons, rated No. 6 Class A in the most recent Guillotine rankings, certainly were not yet in the giving spirit.

The Sting won the opening weight class and the Falcons the next 13, seven by pin and two by forfeit for a 68-4 victory.

It wasn't that the Sting didn't battle -- they fought hard -- but rather the Falcons were just relentless.

Sting wrestlers had 6-0 and 2-0 third-period leads only to lose just before the buzzer.

"We're still pretty young but the kids work awfully hard all week," said ACGC coach Dan Rouser.

The Falcons (6-0) next graduate to one of the nation's premier wrestling tournaments when they compete at The Clash in the University Center at the Rochester (Minn.) Field House held the last two days of 2011.

ACGC will meet Carl Sandburg High School, No. 1 in Illinois Class AAA in Friday's first round. Other teams in their bracket come from Ohio, Georgia, Virginia and Wisconsin. Minnesota tital Apple Valley is in the opposing bracket.

ACGC lost four seniors from last year's top rated team that lost to the Kimball Cubs in Section 5A final. Still, 10 Falcons reached the state individually and six of those return, including Larry Bomstad, who was third at 140 pounds and finished the year 42-2.

Colten Specht at 106 picked up the YME points last night.

Bob Rasmussen's tech fall at 113 started the ACGC avalanche. Starting at 138 with Jesse Whitcomb, the host team scored six consecutive wins via pins.

ACGC fans filled the bleachers on one side of the gym and there was also a good turnout fans for the Granite Falls' high school. The wrestlers performed in a darken gym under a single overhead spotlight in the manner of the old Friday night fights.
