ACGC truth in taxation hearing tonight

GROVE CITY -- The Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City School Board will hold its Truth in Taxation hearing at 5:30 p.m. tonight. The public hearing on the proposed 2006-07 levy will be held at the media center at the Junior/Senior High School in Grove City.

At the same time, district residents are in the process of voting on an additional levy to raise new revenue to get the district out of statutory operating debt -- defined by the state as a negative fund balance of more than 2.5 percent of operating expenditures. The special election is being conducted with a mail-in ballot.

As of Tuesday, about 1,000 ballots had been returned to the district office. There were 3,689 ballots sent to residents. The ballots must be returned to the district office by 8 p.m. Thursday. Residents who prefer to vote in person can do so at the district office between 3:30 and 8 p.m. Thursday.

During its meeting Monday, the ACGC School Board was given an update on the election and asked to provide input on the statutory operating debt report the district must submit to the state.

The district must write, and follow, a plan to get out of statutory operating debt within three years. Superintendent Pamela Kyllingstad asked the board for input on a narrative section of the report that describes the three communities in the district.

In other action the board:

- Accepted resignations of Gretchen Christensen, a secretary at North Elementary in Atwater, and Paulette Eisenbacher, a custodian at North Elementary.

- Approved hiring Robin Wall as the seventh-grade girls basketball coach.

- Approved a one-year contract with Corporate Health Systems, which manages the district's flex plan.
