Ag experts warn S.D. corn growers of volatile year

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Agriculture finance experts are predicting what could be a volatile year in agriculture.

Experts at the South Dakota Corn Growers Association's annual meeting Saturday in Sioux Falls said they believe that's in large part because the U.S. economic recovery is not built on sustainable growth.

Among their concerns, they say there's the potential for federal stimulus money in the economy leading to inflation. They also worry about fertilizer and fuel costs rising.

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University emeritus professor David Kohl says there are potential opportunities in agriculture. But he and market analyst Richard Brock also say farmers should be disciplined and cautious with money.
