Agnes Lucille Spilseth July 20, 1917 - Dec. 27, 2012
GLENWOOD - Agnes Lucille Spilseth, age 95, of Glenwood, died Thursday evening, December 27, 2012, at St. Josephs Hospital in St. Paul, MN, from complications of a stroke she suffered this past Monday. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, December 31st at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 7 P.M. at the funeral home and will continue on Monday, one hour prior to the service.
Agnes Spilseth, born on July 20, 1917 in Hallock, MN, is the daughter of Carl and Etta (Minzer) Lovstad. She lived on a farm with her parents and siblings in Northwestern Minnesota until the family moved to rural Kensington, where she attended and graduated from High School in 1936. On June 30, 1940, she married Maynard E. Spilseth at her parents home in Alexandria. The couple first made their home in Bagley, where Maynard worked for the creamery. In 1942, Agnes and Maynard moved to the farm they continued to operate in Nora Township until 1977, which included a dairy operation, feeding out their stock and crop farming. Agnes was very busy with the farm, teaching Sunday school, working at Ladies Aid, and raising her three children, Janet, David, and Donald. When they retired, Agnes and Maynard moved to their home in Glenwood where they lived together until Maynards death on January 13, 1983. Following Maynards death, Agnes relocated to a townhouse at Glenwood Retirement Village and more recently moved to Parkview Court assisted living at Glenwood Retirement Village.
Agnes was very dedicated to her family, including her 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchilden. Blessed be her memory.
Agnes is survived by her three children, Janet S. (Dennis) Rodning of Bloomington, MN, David M. (Patricia) Spilseth of Wayzata, MN, and Judge Donald M. (Pauline) Spilseth of Spicer, MN; six grandchildren: Denise (Rodning) Burt, Mark Rodning, Kate Spilseth, Andrew Spilseth, Dr. Benjamin Spilseth, and Karl Spilseth; and 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Koestler of Burt, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Etta and Carl; husband, Maynard E. Spilseth; a sister, Rowena Dahlgren; and four brothers, Orville, Lester, Russell, and Marvin.
