Albert E. 'Gene' Howard Nov. 24, 1928 - April 10, 2009
ALBANY -- Albert Eugene "Gene" Howard, 80, of Albany, formerly of Glenwood, died Friday at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Inurnment will be in Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and will continue for one hour prior to the service.
He was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Akron, Ohio, to Albert and Amelia (Wink) Howard. When he was young, his family moved to Sherburn where he grew up.
He married Doris Mekosch on Oct. 2, 1948, in Sherburn. They lived in Fairmont before moving to Glenwood and wintering in Arizona. He worked as a mechanic while living in Fairmont and at Gloege Chevrolet in Glenwood. Doris died in 1982. He moved to Arizona where he lived until 2005, when he moved in with his daughter in Belgrade. He lived most recently at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.
Gene is survived by his children: Dan Howard (and fiancée Sue Holmgren) of Glenwood and Dianne (and Tony) Olson of Belgrade; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister: Helen Mensen of Sherburn; and a stepsister: June (and Keith) Mueller of Watertown.
He is preceded in death by his first wife; second wife: Ginny Foner; and special friend: Val Holffmeister.
