Alexandria avenges earlier loss to Willmar

ALEXANDRIA -- Alexandria scored four times in the second half and defeated Willmar 6-2 in a Central Lakes Conference match Saturday.

The victory avenged a 1-0 loss to Willmar on Sept. 15 in Willmar.

Luis Estrada opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 15:00, giving Willmar a 1-0 lead.

But this time, Willmar couldn't keep Alexandria down.

"Alexandria scored a couple of transition goals," said Willmar coach Richard Courtney. "They have a little more speed than we do and that was the difference."

After Estrada's goal, Alexandria reeled off six straight goals, including two by Bryce Brickweg, before Willmar capped the scoring when Sergio Flores netted a goal at the 72:00 mark.

Willmar (11-5-1) will host Lakeville South in a Section 2A playoff game Tuesday.
