Alexandria-based Brock Lesnar to defend UFC heavyweight title this weekend.
Alexandria-based Brock Lesnar will put his Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight title on the line Saturday against the only man who has beaten him in his short UFC career.
Frank Mir (18-2) and Lesnar (3-1) will enter the octagon on Saturday for what is expected to be the biggest pay-per-view event in the sport's history. The two will meet up at UFC 100 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
Lesnar's only loss came in his debut fight against Mir in early 2008. He has gone 3-0 since then, including a second-round TKO of Randy Couture, which won him the heavyweight belt on November 15.
Lesnar has improved dramatically since his first fight against Mir. He came into the UFC with a strong background in wrestling that included a national championship with the University of Minnesota. Lesnar has been on a mission to become the most well rounded UFC fighter he can be since his debut loss.
It is safe to say Mir will be facing a different fighter when the two battle for the undisputed heavyweight title on Saturday night. UFC 100 begins on PPV at 9 p.m. central time.
