Alf G. Hustoft Aug. 21, 1925 - March 21, 2009

WILLMAR -- Alf G. Hustoft, 83, of Willmar, died Saturday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Vinje Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 167 and VFW Post 1639, both of Willmar.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.

He was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Willmar to Ole and Inga (Gudmonson) Hustoft. He grew up and attended school in Willmar and later attended the Morris Agriculture School. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1943 and served during World War II until 1946. After his discharge, he worked with his father on their turkey farm until 1947, when he began work as a locomotive engineer for the Great Northern Railroad.

He married Jean Barge on May 29, 1954, in Willmar. They lived on a farm south of Willmar. He retired from the railroad in 1986. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion posts in Willmar and volunteered at the Kandiyohi County Historical Society.

He is survived by three children: Debbie (and Lynn) Rice of Willmar, Randy (and Lauri) Hustoft of New London and Linda (and Jack) Hinz of Richfield; eight grandchildren; two sisters: Emma (and Wyman) Skoglund of Red Wing and Joan (and Wesley) Young of Richmond, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2005 and two brothers.
