Alice A. Gronewold Oct. 3, 1921 - Nov. 28, 2009
MONTEVIDEO -- Alice Annette Gronewold, 88, of Franklin and formerly of rural Montevideo, died Saturday at Renville County Hospital in Olivia,
The service is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Visitation is this afternoon at Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m.
She was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Ostfriesland, Germany, to Rikus and Ayeltdine (Reiter) Frerichs. She emigrated with her family in November 1924 and moved the next year to a farm north of Clara City.
She married Harm Gronewold in 1941. They farmed in Havelock Township, Chippewa County. After the death of her husband in 1951, she continued to operate the farm with her family. She lived on the farm until moving to Clara City and Montevideo, then to Franklin Health Care Center.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was active in circle, ladies aid and quilting.
She is survived by a son: Alvin (and Judy) Gronewold of Montevideo; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law: Gladys Nelson of Montevideo; and a brother: Menno (and Margene) Frerichs of Maynard.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons: Richard and Peter; three brothers and two sisters.
