All 5 Yellow Medicine commissioner seats up for election
GRANITE FALLS -- The Yellow Medicine County Board of Commissioners approved a new redistricting plan Tuesday.
All five commissioner seats are up for election this year due to redistricting, a vacancy due to death, and the completion of terms.
The commissioners at their meeting on Tuesday approved the first of two redistricting options presented, according to Yellow Medicine County Administrator Ryan Krosch. The other option would have placed a portion of the city of Canby in a different district.
The new plan creates these changes: District 1 will lose Sandness Township and the city of Hanley Falls.
District 4 gains Sandness Township and the city of Hanley Falls but loses Florida Township.
District 5 gains Florida Township.
As a result of the redistricting, the District 1 and District 4 seats will be up for election this November. They are currently represented by Greg Renneke and Ron Antony respectively. Both have served two of the four-year terms.
The District 3 and 5 seats, represented by Louie Sherlin and Gary Johnson respectively, are up for election due to the completion of their four-year terms.
District 2 is up for election to fill the vacancy created by the death of Dick Wambeke of Granite Falls.
The filing period for the commissioner seats is May 22 through June 5.
