WILLMAR -- Allen Peter Tonsfeldt, 85, of Willmar died Friday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Svea Lutheran Church in Svea. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
He was born March 25, 1923, in La Mars, Iowa, to Hans and Julia (Kohler) Tonsfeldt. He grew up on the family farm in La Mars, Iowa. The family moved to Woodstock and later Pipestone, where they continued to farm. He graduated from Pipestone High School in 1941.
In 1942, he entered the U.S. Navy and was an F6F Hellcat pilot during World War II. He was awarded an air medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He married Luella Herrman in Renville. In 1951, they moved to a farm in the Svea area.
He was a member of Svea Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving on various boards and the church council. He was a 4-H leader and member of the Willmar VFW and American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; children: Pam (and Virgil) Fronk of Silver Lake, Debbie (and Mike) Robinson of Finland, Becky (and Wayne) Whitcomb of Spring Hill, Fla. and Dale (and Debbie) Tonsfeldt of Blomkest; a daughter-in-law: Laurie Tonsfeldt of Svea; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Esther (and Lyle) Ripley of Alexandria and Art Tonsfeldt of Pipestone.
He was preceded in death by a son: Mark in 2006; two brothers; and two sisters.
