ROSEN — Mitch Christenson singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to end an epic pitchers‘ duel and lead Montevideo to a 3-2 victory over Ortonville in the Region 9C playoffs on Sunday.

Tanner Lindemann walked with one outs, advanced to second when Jordan Thompson was hit by a pitch, and he scored the game-winning run on Christenson’s single to right field.

Montevideo’s Eldon Evans got the win working a complete game. He surrendered just two unearned runs, didn’t allow a walk and he struck out 11.

Ortonville’s Chris Fellows was equally effective, allowing two earned runs, walking one and striking out 16.

Neither pitcher allowed a run after the first inning until Christenson’s game-winning RBI.

Monte’s Joe Schlagel 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Montevideo plays Morris, which eliminated Hancock on Sunday, in the 9C losers bracket semifinals at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rosen.

Bird Island 4

Raymond scored in the top of the ninth inning to eliminate the Bullfrogs in the Region 11C playoffs on Sunday.

Calvin Kosminskas had three hits, John Sawatzky was 2-for-3 and drove in a run, and Kyle Knott drove in a pair of runs for Raymond.

Tyler Knott got the win in relief, striking out three in 2.1 innings.

Bird Island’s Elliot Serbus, Ben Maiers and Riley Kramer all had two hits.

Raymond (22-10) plays Luxemburg at 1:30 Saturday.

Raymond suffered through the bad inning of all bad innings and fell to Kimball in the second round of the Region 11C playoffs.

Kimball, trailing by a run, collected all 11 of its hits and scored all its runs in the fourth inning of a game ended after seven by the 10-run rule.

Raymond allowed Kimball just three base runners in the other five innings.

Adam Beyer and Kyle Winter both had two hits and combined to drive in four runs.

Raymond’s Justin Koenen was 2-for-3 and Mike Jeseritz drove in a run.

Norway Lake-Sunburg fell behind early, couldn’t rally in the later innings and were eliminated from the Region 15C playoffs on Sunday.

The Lakers finished 10-6.

Justin Johnson had two hits and James Cortez and Jonah Johnson both drove in runs.

Justin Schroeder tossed 8.1 innings and Chris Beier was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI as Regal advanced in the Region 15C tournament.

The Eagles scored single runs in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth, and added two in the seventh on Austen Hadley’s RBI groundout and Beier’s RBI double.

Shane Radermacher and Jordan Beier added two hits each.

Regal also played Friday, falling 4-3 to Lake Henry.

The Eagles next play New Munich 11 a.m. Saturday in Elrosa in an elimination game.
