Amateur Baseball: Granite Falls ousts Rails from playoffs

GRANITE FALLS -- Dylan Lindstrom slugged a pair of two-run doubles and Jake Suter added a home run to spark Granite Falls past Willmar 12-5 Friday in an elimination game of the Cornbelt League playoffs.

The No. 5-seeded Kilowatts will hit the road Sunday to face either No. 2 Sacred Heart or No. 3 Milroy at 1:30 p.m. The Sacred Heart/Milroy game Friday started at 8:45 p.m. and a result was not provided to the Tribune at press time.

Granite Falls scored in every inning but the third and owned a 7-0 lead before the Rails struck for five runs in the seventh.

Lindstrom collected a third of the Kilowatts' nine hits and doubled in a two runs in both the fifth and eighth innings. Suter homered to left-center leading off the fourth and Tyler Kanten knocked in another two runs.

Andrew Walters worked into the seventh and struck out six while giving up five hits and five runs -- two earned -- to get the win. Kelly Siverhus kept the Rails off the scoreboard for the final 2.1 innings.

Highlighting the Rails' five-run seventh was a two-run double from Josh Oestreich and Matt Stock's RBI double.

Willmar starter Andrew Bangen was tagged with the loss after giving up five hits, six runs and four walks in five innings.
