Amateur Baseball: Raymond keeps Rails looking for 1st victory

RAYMOND -- Kyle Knott hammered a two-run homer in the seventh inning and doubled home another run in the eighth as the Raymond Rockets kept the Willmar Rails winless with a 7-1 win in Cornbelt League amateur baseball on Sunday night.

Jordan Daugherty's two-run single in the fourth inning put Raymond in front 2-1.

Mike Jeseritz and Brandon Madsen had RBI hits in the Rockets' three-run eighth.

Tyler Knott struck out nine and surrendered just three hits, one run and one walk in seven innings of work to get the win. Zach Nelson kept the Rails scoreless by striking out four and not allowing a hit in the eighth and ninth innings.

Josh Oestreich RBI single in the first gave the Rails (0-2, 0-7) a 1-0 lead. John Sawatzky and Travis Koenen got the only other hits off Tyler Knott and Nelson.

Sawatzky was the losing pitcher.

Milroy 6, Bird Island 4

Milroy (3-0, 10-3) used a four-run fourth inning to edge visiting Bird Island (2-2, 5-4).

The two teams compiled 21 hits, 11 by the Bullfrogs (formerly the Islanders).

The Yankees' Justin Schlemmer singled with one out in the fourth and Eric Dolan followed with an RBI double. Hadley singled to put runners on first and third. Cory Schmidt's RBI single made it 3-2 Milroy. Dean Zwach singled in another run and the fourth run scored on a wild pitch.

Tyler Hebrink, who was 3-for-5, and Mitch Neubauer had RBI hits in the Bird Island first.

St. Paul Blue Delivery's Craig Pluff started the game with a solo home run at Baker Field.

Down 4-0, a single and stolen base by the Rails' Travis Koenen at the start of the fifth put a runner in scoring position, followed by two walks by St. Paul pitcher Ali Shoumann produced a run. Willmar's John Sawatzky's single scored Adam Fagerstrom to give Willmar two runs.

Sawatzky got four of the Rails' seven hits. Losing pitcher Jason Scheffler gave up 10 hits over six innings.

St. Paul Blue Delivery earned three runs right away in the first off of two walks and singles by Rick Buettner and Dan Ryks, and an Ali Shoumann double.

Willmar's Adam Fagerstrom's lead-off double followed by Alex Marcus' double got one run back in the bottom of the first.

St. Paul scored four earned runs in the fourth, upping its lead to 9-1.
