Amateur baseball: Rockets burn Saints in 19-inning battle
RAYMOND — Raymond strung four hits together in the bottom of the 19th inning and edged Sacred Heart 10-9 on Wednesday in a game that took just over five hours to finish.
The game featured a combined seven different pitchers and 32 total hits.
Tyler Steen was 6-for-8 with a home run and six RBI, and was the winning pitcher, going two innings and allowing an unearned run.
Losing pitcher Ryan Fransen threw the final nine innings for the Saints, giving up just an unearned run until the 19th-inning rally.
After the Saints had taken a 9-8 lead in the top of the 19th, Brandon Madsen, Jordan Daugherty and Mike Jeseritz got three straight hits to plate the tying run.
That brought up Justin Koenen, who was 4-for-10, who singled to bring in Daugherty with the game-winner.
The Rockets, who beat Milroy 7-3 on Tuesday, end league play at 9-3 and at least a tie for the Cornbelt title.
