PAYNESVILLE -- Mike VanOverbeke belted a two-run home run in the top of the 16th inning and Starbuck outlasted Paynesville 5-2 in a Cornbelt League amateur baseball action on Sunday.
Paynesville scored both of its runs in the bottom of the third for a 2-0 lead. Starbuck narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the sixth, then plated the tying run in the top of the ninth.
Two errors, a single and VanOverbeke's homer accounted for the three Starbuck runs in the 16th.
Jon Hoffmann worked the first nine innings for Starbuck. Mike Andreas got the win with seven scoreless innings of relief.
Doug Fuchs took the loss.
Matt Andreas had three hits for Starbuck (2-10, 2-10). Chad Andreas had two hits.
Jamie Paul, Shannon Olmscheid and Ryan Hess had two hits each for Paynesville (3-10, 3-10).

Matt Koenen tossed a one-hit shutout, allowing just a sixth-inning single to Shawn Dollerschell, and got plenty of support as Sacred Heart hammered Bird Island. Koenen shook off five walks and struck out four in seven innings of work.
Jeff Hinderks slugged two-run homers in the first and sixth innings and Mitch Schwindt added a solo home run in the sixth to highlight a 16-hit attack for the Saints. Tyler Kleinhuizen supplied three hits.

After plating five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at 7, New London-Spicer gave up three unearned runs to Regal in the ninth. The Twins got within one in the bottom half of the ninth, but stranded a runner at third base as the game ended.
The game that lasted nearly three hours didn't start until 8:45 p.m. due to a late arrival of the umpire staff.
