SUNBURG — Norway Lake-Sunburg batted around in the first and second innings on its way to beating Atwater in a 12-10 slugfest in the second round of the County Line playoffs Sunday in Sunburg.


The Lakers strung together five hits, a walk and a hit batter, and took advantage of three errors to score six in the second inning.

Jonah Johnson scored three runs and was the winning pitcher with 4.2 innings in relief of starter Chris Braaten.

James Cortez, Jordan Johnson and Kyle Baker added two hits each, as NLS had 11 hits in all.

Michael Malvin paced the Chuckers with a 4-for-5, three RBI performance.

No. 3-seed Atwater next plays 1:30 p.m. against No. 5-seed Starbuck.

The No. 2-seed Lakers play Sunday against No. 4-seed Regal.

Austen Hadley tossed a complete game and Andy Hadley cranked a go-ahead, two-run double in the eighth inning as No. 4-seed Regal upset No. 1-seed New London-Spicer.

Austen Hadley had two hits, and Blake Karsch added two hits and an RBI.

Jake Rambow and Scott Rambow notched RBIs for the Twins.

Kevin Soine took the loss in a complete-game effort.

Nathan Deutz struck out 14 while giving up just one walk and six singles to help propel the No. 4-seeded Yankees into a meeting with top-seeded Raymond on Wednesday.

Deutz got all the support he needed in the fourth inning when Matt Bauer (solo) and Andy Schmidt (two-run) belted home runs. David Schmidt added a double, a single and an RBI.

Willmar will play No. 5-seed Granite Falls on Wednesday in an elimination game, and Sacred Heart is at No. 2-seed Bird Island on Wednesday.

Montevideo 6, Rosen 3

Montevideo closed out the regular season on a high note when Cam Vien slugged a three-run homer in the ninth to break a 3-3 tie. The Spartans (11-5) finished 11-3 in the league and are league champions for the first time since the team started back up in 2011.

Montevideo is off until July 26 when it opens Region 9C play. The first weekend of games are in Madison and Rosen hosts the final two weekends.

South Dakota State commit Eldon Evans pitched a complete game and struck out 17.

Kyle TeBeest doubled to open the Montevideo ninth and was moved to third on Mitch Christensen’s sacrifice bunt. Rosen then intentionally walked Evans to get to Vien.

TeBeest, Evans, Lindemann, Colton Vien, Joe Schlagel and Jake Bednar had two hits each.

A six-run fifth inning allowed Regal to drop the Stars into the elimination bracket, where Starbuck will play at Atwater on Sunday. Regal beat top-seeded New London-Spicer 4-2 the next day to set up a game at No. 2 Norway Lake-Sunburg Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Nathan Beier and Josh Beier had two hits each with Josh scoring twice and driving in two runs for Regal. Austen Hadley added a two-run double and Andy Hadley also doubled in a run. Chris Beier struck out seven and scattered eight hits without issuing a walk in seven innings of work to earn the win.

Jake Amundson and Trenton Berg both singled twice for Starbuck.

The Spartans took control early after collecting nine hits in a nine-run first inning. Highlights included Cam Vien’s two-run homer and Joe Schlagel’s two-run single.

Montevideo starter Phillip Ward went the first five innings on the hill to get the win. Eldon Evans drove in four runs with a triple, a double and two singles, while Vien, Schlagel and Kyle TeBeest had three hits each in the 19-hit attack.
