Amateur Baseball Roundup: Lakers edge Stars to clinch No. 2 seed for CLL playoffs
SUNBURG — Jonah Johnson pitched an 11-inning complete game and Jordan Engler hit a walkoff single as Norway Lake-Sunburg took an 8-7, extra-inning win over Starbuck Sunday in the County Line League.
The win secures the Lakers the No. 2 seed for the league playoffs that start this Saturday with two games, No. 6 Paynesville at No. 3 Atwater and No. 5 Starbuck at No. 4 Regal. On Sunday, the Paynesville/Atwater winner plays at Sunburg and the Starbuck/Regal winner plays at No. 1 New London-Spicer, which beat Atwater 4-3 Sunday night to clinch the regular-season title.
Engler’s single plated Jordan Johnson, who had been hit by a pitch and took third on Kyle Baker’s single.
Trailing 6-3, Starbuck scored four in the top of the ninth to take the lead, only to have the Lakers (7-3) tie it back in their half to send it to extras.
Jonah Johnson struck out nine and allowed two earned runs.
