Amateur Baseball Roundup: Milroy downs Bird Island to sweep Cornbelt titles

MILROY — An eight-run third inning was all Milroy needed to down Bird Island 10-5 and win the Cornbelt League playoffs title Sunday.

Milroy’s David Schmidt and Matt Bauer provided some offensive punch in the middle of the Yankee’s lineup, supplying three hits apiece. Milroy also won the regular-season title.

Bird Island starter Luke Kramer suffered the loss. He surrendered eight earned runs on eight hits and did not make it out of the disastrous third inning.

Mark Neubauer swung for two hits for the Bullfrogs, and Shawn Dollerschell had a triple.

Both teams qualified for the Region 11C playoffs that is hosted by Cold Spring. Milroy will meet Kimball at 7:30 p.m. on Friday while the Bullfrogs play the Cold Spring Rockies on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
