The New London-Spicer Twins will return to Minnesota’s amateur baseball region tournament level where they are the defending champions in Region 15C.

Also advancing are the Regal Eagles, who last went in 2009.

Regal was the No. 4 seed and the Twins No. 3 starting the County Line playoffs.

Regal defeated NL-S 2-1 on Sunday in a game to decide region 15C seeding.

On Saturday, the Twins, behind Kevin Soine’s two-hitter, guaranteed a spot on Saturday evening at Kingery Field with a 3-0 victory over the Atwater Chuckers, the top seed.

The NLS right-hander had a no-hitter on the books with one out left in the ninth. Jeff Peterson, the Chuckers’ left fielder, broke it up with a Texas league single over the first baseman’s head. Soine pitched a (seven-inning) no-hitter vs. New Market in a tournament early in the season.

Regal knocked off Starbuck Saturday to get a shot at Atwater, at Kingery Field Sunday.

It was 1-0, Regal up, through six innings with the Chuckers’ Justin Schroeder and the Eagles’ Austin Hadley both sharp.

But in the seventh, the Eagles lifted off coupling four singles, an error and an unlikely infield foul sacrifice fly to post six runs off Schroeder and reliever JaColby Anderson.

That was more than enough with the Chuckers’ bats unexpectedly silent for the weekend — just eight hits in 18 innings.

The eight-team tournament runs the next two weekends starting with three teams each from the Stearns County North and South divisions, plus the two County Line representatives.
