Amateur Baseball: Willmar holds off late Starbuck run
STARBUCK -- Willmar held off a late Starbuck rally to take a 7-6 Cornbelt League victory Sunday.
The Stars (1-8, 1-8) scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, cutting the lead to 7-6, but Troy Ditterich came in to strike out the last batter and secure the win for the Rails (5-4, 5-4).
Willmar's David Anderson earned the win after six innings of work. Anderson scattered five hits for two earned runs. He also struck out three and walked five.
Cody Scott and Jason Scheffler pitched in relief, but gave up four runs to make it a 7-6 ball game.
Josh Dahlke and Anthony Stern led the Rails' offense with three hits each. One of Dahlke's hits was a triple.
Jon Hoffmann took the loss for Starbuck after surrendering five unearned runs. He pitched six innings, allowed seven hits and struck out nine.
Joe Heidelberger gave up an additional two runs in three innings of relief.
Chad Andreas led the Starbuck bats with three hits, including a double. Zach Lagred and Matt Daniels each slapped a pair of singles.

Jeremy Dirksen cracked a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning for New London-Spicer.
Raymond's Jason Meyer slugged a two-run shot of his own in the top of the second inning to highlight a four-run rally and give the Rockets (8-1, 15-2) a 4-3 lead.
Tom DeBoer earned the win by allowing six runs in six innings of work. He scattered six hits and struck out five.
Mike Jeseritz, Kyle Knott, Ben Ruter, and Zach Nelson slapped doubles for Raymond.
Ben Kulset and Darren Ogdahl had two hits each for the Twins (5-6, 5-7).

Dan Leritz clubbed a two-run single in the fourth inning, then scored on a wild pitch in the next inning for the Lakers' winning margin.
Leritz finished with two hits, as did Kent Gjerde.
Chris Braaten earned the win for NL-Sunburg (5-4, 5-4), allowing four runs on nine hits in six innings. He struck out eight and walked four. Grant Johnson pitched the last three innings for the save.
Sacred Heart (6-4, 7-6) had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth, but Johnson picked up a strikeout to end the game.
Tyler Kleinhuizen sent 3-for-3 to lead the Saints.
