An excerpt from recent editorials in newspapers in the United States:

The Associated Press

On the stimulus plan:

Under the most optimistic assessment, passing President Barack Obama's $787 billion eco-nomic stimulus package by itself would have halted the job losses that have, actually, pushed Tennessee to a 10.8 unemployment rate five months later.

Of course, that's not what supporters of the plan predicted, although one wouldn't know that from the criticism the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is getting from its foot-tapping critics.

Reason dictates that it's too early to lose patience with the program. ...

It remains to be seen what impact the stimulus program will have on interest rates and the rate of inflation. There are, indeed, many risks involved.

The worst choice, though, would have been not to act. It's simply too soon to tell if the choice that was made was the right one.
