SPICER -- Former Clara City three-sport athlete Gretchen Amundson, 32, of St. Cloud made it two women's titles in a row fronting 127 females running the 37th Green Lake 12-miler on Sunday morning.

The men's champions was Phil Richert, 24, of St. Paul who completed the circle run from Saulsbury Beach in 1:07.23. Incredibly, that was 1/100th of a second faster than the winning time a year ago and the fastest time in 13 years. He also won in 2006.

The 265 finishers, enjoying a 65-degree start with little breeze and light overcast, were the most in the last four years.

Richert won by three minutes over Brian Anderson, also 24 and from St. Paul. Former winner Wade Cruser of Sauk Rapids took third.

Amundson, who ran a 3:12.01 marathon at Duluth two weeks ago, finished four minutes up on women's runner-up Stephanio Schreider, 36, of Edina.

Out front from the start, Richert ran his first mile in 5:07 before he settled into a 5:40 pace on the return along the North Shore. Last year's runner-up Matt Weitzel, 19, of Willmar finished fourth.
