Appeals court affirms Edinburgh conviction
Willmar Minnesota 2208 Trott Ave. SW / P.O. Box 839 56201

WILLMAR -- The state Court of Appeals has affirmed Miles David Edinburgh's conviction for the July 2008 stabbing death of Ridgewater College football captain Adam Milton.

Edinburgh, 20, was sentenced in December 2009 to 30 years in prison on a second-degree murder charge. He was convicted by a Kandiyohi County jury in October 2009.

In an unpublished opinion released Monday, the appeals court ruled against Edinburgh's public defender's argument that the district court abused its discretion when it ruled regarding trial testimony about his character and conduct, that the jury instructions were in error, that excessive "spark of life" evidence was allowed and that the court's failure to sequester the jury prejudiced the verdict.
