Appleton, Minn., man killed in motorcycle-deer crash

ORTONVILLE -- A 59-year-old Appleton man has died as a result of injuries sustained in a Saturday morning motor vehicle crash along State Highway 7 in Big Stone County.

According to the State Patrol, Philip J. Borstad, 59, was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on the highway when a deer ran north out of the ditch and hit him in mid-air. The impact knocked the driver off the motorcycle and on to the highway.

Borstad was taken to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was not wearing a helmet.

Also responding to the crash was the Big Stone County Sheriff's office.
