Arctic cold front winds to hit west central Minn. this afternoon and evening

CHANHASSEN, Minn. - An Arctic air mass will push out of the Red River Valley region into central and southern Minnesota this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

This strong front will bring the coldest air of the season so far, with northwest winds in the wake of this frontincreasing to 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.

A wind advisory remains in effect for much of west central Minnesota through 9 p.m. tonight. The winds are expected to start diminishing late Saturday evening.

The combination of northwest winds and temperatures dropping below zero tonight and into Sunday will cause dangerous wind chills over portions of central Minnesota. The wind chill advisory,  which includes Stevens, Pope and Stearns counties, estimates 20 to 30 degress below zero wind chills across central Minnesota.

These strong winds may make fore difficult driving, especially for high profile and light weight vehicles.
