Ardith L. Heen Sept. 1, 1923 - Dec. 17, 2008
WILLMAR -- Ardith Liala Heen, 85, of Granite Falls died Wednesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Maynard Lutheran Church in Maynard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Funeral Home in Echo.
She was born Sept. 1, 1923, on the family farm in Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine County, to Bendict and Clara (Anderson) Lecy. She attended School District No. 65 through the eighth grade and graduated from Echo High School in 1941. She then attended business school in Willmar and moved to Granite Falls where she worked at the medical clinic on Prentice Street.
She married Leslie "L.W." Heen on Feb. 11, 1945, in rural Echo. They lived in Granite Falls briefly before moving to the Heen family farm in Wang Township, Renville County, where they farmed until 1957.
For the next 10 years, they farmed south of Hanley Falls. In 1967, they returned to the farm in Wang Township and farmed there until retirement in 1984. Following Warren's death in 1988, she helped lead an effort to restore a memorial one-room schoolhouse on the farm.
She married Warren Chapman in Phoenix on April 4, 1990. They moved to Granite Falls.
She was a member of Maynard Lutheran Church
She is survived by her husband; children: Carol Heen (and Charles Boone) of Minneapolis, Linda Heen of Minneapolis and Les (and Barbara) Heen of Maynard; stepdaughter: Nancy Chapman of Phoenix; two grandsons; and a sister: Beuella Johnson of Jasper.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
