Area counties in flood warning until 12:30 p.m.
WILLMAR -- Portions of west central Minnesota are in a flood warning until 12:30 p.m. today.
According to the National Weather Service, the flood watch issued Sunday for much of the area was upgraded to a flood warning around 6:30 a.m. this morning.
Area counties included in the warning include Chippewa, Swift, Kandiyohi, Meeker and Stearns.
The weather service Doppler radar indicated an area of very heavy rainfall across the warned area. Radar and observer reports suggested 1 to 2 inches of rain has already fallen with another ½ to 1 inch expected.
River gauges along the Chippewa River indicated a possible ice jam on the river this morning around 3:30 a.m. The weather service reports included water-covered roadways in Benson with some water in area homes.
Citizens are urged to stay alert to changing conditions as the rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams and highways, underpasses and country roads.
