Arlene Johnson Jan. 27, 1914 - Jan. 25, 2009
STARBUCK -- Arlene Ruby Johnson, 94, of Starbuck died Sunday.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be for two hours before the service at the church. Arrangements are by Starbuck Funeral Home.
She was born Jan. 27, 1914, near Lily, S.D., to Edgar and Marie Benson. The family moved to Providence Township near Dawson in 1920. She attended country school and graduated from Dawson High School in 1932. She worked at the family store until 1944 when she moved with her family to Minneapolis and worked at Dayton's department store, where she was the manager of the infants department.
She married M. Eugene Johnson on May 28, 1949. They had a dairy farm until 1975 when they moved into Starbuck. They moved to Holly Ridge Manor in Starbuck in 1997 and she entered the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in 2004.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Starbuck and was active in the ladies' aid where she held numerous positions over the years and was a member of the Walden Gadabouts Homemaker's Club.
She is survived by her children: Michael (and Judith) Johnson of Starbuck, Ronald (and Suzanne) Johnson of Starbuck and Marcella (and Lee) Peterson of Excelsior; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000 and one brother.
