Arnold Klause Sept. 26, 1919 - June 18, 2009
REDWOOD FALLS -- Arnold Hugo Klause, 89, of Redwood Falls, died Thursday at Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. John's Cemetery in Sheridan Township.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
He was born Sept. 26, 1919, in Sheridan Township, Redwood County, to Alfred and Emma (Raddatz) Klause. He was raised in the Clements and Seaforth areas and received his education in Sheridan Township country school. As a boy, he worked at the Gilfillan Farm as well as for local farmers. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946, serving as an auto mechanic with the 277th Coast Artillery Battalion in the American and Asiatic Pacific theaters.
On March 14, 1953, he married Verna Zuehlsdorf in Minneapolis. They farmed in the Sanborn and Clements areas, and later in Sheridan Township where they farmed until he retired in 1977. They moved into Redwood Falls in 1984.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls and was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sheridan Township where he served on various church boards and had served as president of the congregation.
He is survived by his sons: John Klause of Mountain Lake, James Klause of rural Belview and Paul (and Gail) Klause of rural Redwood Falls; six grandchildren; and sisters: Lorna Thorston of rural Springfield, Erma Zuehlsdorf of Redwood Falls and Elaine Krohn of Nicollet.
He was preceded in death by his wife on June 8, 2005, two brothers and one sister.
