OSAKIS -- An Alexandria man was arrested Friday in the homicide case of Diane Fortenberry, 51, of rural Osakis.
During a press conference late Friday, Todd County Sheriff Peter Mikkelson said Jeffery Allen Brooks, 52, had been arrested around noon in Alexandria.
He was arrested without incident after he left his home. An agent from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and a Todd County Sheriff's deputy made the arrest Friday.
The sheriff said Brooks likely faces second-degree murder charges. Brooks will make his first court appearance Tuesday.
Fortenberry, had lunch with co-workers May 20 and returned to her home, located on the northwest side of Lake Osakis in Gordon Township in Todd County, where she reportedly interrupted a burglary in progress.
She was assaulted and died from blunt force trauma, according to preliminary autopsy results.
Items taken from the home, included collector coins and other currency, jewelry, a depth finder, flat-screen TV, DVD player, Xbox game system and a laptop computer.
Fortenberry's son found her when he returned home from work around 4:40 p.m. She was transported to Long Prairie Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Fortenberry is survived by her husband and two sons.
