For one night, the Willmar Area Arts Council will add art to the mix, joining fans and players on the field at 7 p.m. Monday for "Art in the Park."

"We're trying to bring the arts to the general public in an out-of-the-box way of thinking," said Deb VanBuren, a board member of WAAC.

A tent with various art projects for kids will be set up throughout the game and local artists will give demonstrations. There will also be a raffle drawing for five art pieces.

The WAAC requested local artists to submit art concepts and the group received a variety of entries, but chose a watercolor painting of a Stingers' game as the grand prize.

The painting by Violet Dauk of New London was the best depiction of a Stingers' game, VanBuren said. "We thought she had a really neat piece of artwork."

Along with Dauk's watercolor painting, four other pieces will also be given away including a wire sculpture of a stinger bee by Kristen Allen of New London, a shadow box of Stingers' memorabilia by Dick Ford of Spicer, a honey pot pottery piece by David Korsmo of New London and a woven basket by Janet Olney of Willmar. Five lucky winners of the raffle drawing will take the original art pieces home.

A poster version of Dauk's painting will also be given to the first 500 fans at the field.

"The goal is to integrate the arts into more areas than the art galleries," VanBuren said.
