MONTEVIDEO -- Arthur Arnold Roder, 86, of Montevideo died Thursday at Methodist Hospital in Minneapolis.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation is for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Montevideo.
He was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Grant County, S.D., to Frank and Nellie (Jurgens) Roder. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his military service, he moved to Montevideo and began work on the railroad. He then worked at a grocery.
He married Elsie Paulson on May 22, 1947, in Montevideo. Together they ran Westside Grocery for 55 years.
He was a member of VFW Post 380, the American Legion and the Montevideo Baseball Association. He was also a member of the Montevideo Planning and Zoning Board.
He is survived by his wife; four children: Franklin (and Barbara) Roder of Montevideo, James Roder of Montevideo; Elaine (and Mike) Marth of Eden Prairie; and John Roder of Minneapolis; four grandchildren; a great-grand daughter; and a sister: Lucille Mueller of Ortonville.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings; a grandson; and a daughter-in-law: Julie Roder.
