Last spring, 19 local artists received donated, broken-down guitars with the challenge of turning them into works of art. Each artist had about two months to complete their guitars and submit them for the challenge.

The result: 19 unique, creative pieces of artwork that look nothing alike. From tribute guitars to Coldplay and Elvis to a piece called "The Cat That Got the Canary," each guitar reflects the artist's individuality and own creative process.

The guitars have been on display since early June at various businesses in New London, Spicer and Willmar. In the last two years, similar challenges were done in Willmar and Spicer.

Artists participating in the New London Guitar Challenge were: Diane Trew, Monica Villars, Sharon Howell, Karen Jensen, Laurel Iverson, Art Norby, Shalese Sands, Scott Stulen, Larry Lindquist, Ron Adams, Eva Miller, Willis Chase, Donna Jean Carver, Stacey Neuhaus, Dona Larkin, Jodi Ligeros, Deb Connolly, Kelly Welch and Kate Zare.

The Aug. 31 auction is open to the public. The band "The 3 or 4 Amigos" will provide musical entertainment.

The New London Guitar Challenge was sponsored by the Willmar Lakes Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Willmar Area Arts Council, New London CIA and numerous community participants.
