COKATO -- Audrey Mavone Nord, 89, of Cokato, died Thursday at Cokato Manor.
The service will be at 1 p.m. today at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
She was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Winfield Township, Renville County, to Martin and Maude (Hoff) Sweiven. She started school in Maynard and, when she was 9, her family moved to Buffalo where she completed high school in 1937. She graduated from St. Cloud State College and also took courses from the Universities of Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin.
She taught elementary students for 22 years in Sacred Heart, Bloomington, Willmar, Howard Lake and Waverly. She also substituted in Cokato and in Redwood Falls.
She married Oswald Nord on June 30, 1946, in Sacred Heart. She was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Over the years, she taught Sunday school, release time, Bible school and sang in church choirs. She was a Girl Scout leader, held offices in the American Legion and in the Disabled American Veterans auxiliaries and was a member of the Sons of Norway Lodge.
She is survived by her children: Paul (and Marilyn) of Arnold, Calif., Gerald (and Beth) of Mendota Heights and Barbara (and Stephen) Senn of Minnetonka; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant sister.
