Authorities investigating body in burned pickup

DARWIN -- Law enforcement authorities are investigating the cause of a Sunday evening vehicle fire and the identity of a body found inside the vehicle.

According to Meeker County Sheriff Mike Hirman, a passing motorist called 911 around 10:15 p.m. Sunday and reported a vehicle fire at a rural residence south of Darwin in Ellsworth Township.

The Dassel Fire Department extinguished the fire. The remains of an unidentified person were found in the cab of the pickup. The coroner's office, along with the State Fire Marshal and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, are investigating.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and the victim has not been positively identified.
