Authorities release name of Hutchinson, Minn., woman killed by train

ATWATER -- A 60-year-old Hutchinson woman living at a halfway house in Atwater was killed in the train incident Tuesday along the railroad tracks in downtown Atwater.

According to Atwater Police Chief Reed Schmidt, the investigation revealed that Susan Mortenson stepped in front of an oncoming Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.

The incident was reported around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday. The westbound train was delayed until around 7 p.m.

According to Schmidt, Mortenson was living at Woodland Centers halfway house on Third Street in Atwater. Woodland Centers is a regional mental health center.
