GROVE CITY -- There will be five names on the ballot for city council in Grove City, but one of those candidates said she won't serve if elected.

Melissa Bergstrom had filed to run for a seat on the City Council, but in the meantime she was hired as the new city clerk for Grove City.

She began the job last month, taking over from interim city clerk Sharon Larsen, who was hired earlier this year after the council fired their previous clerk, Janell Johnson.

Bergstrom said it was too late to take her name off the ballot, so her name will be on the list of candidates.

Bergstrom said she will not serve if she does happen to be a top vote-getter.

Voters will select two city council members.

Candidates include incumbent Gwen Cram and current member Karl Nelson. Cram is a longtime councilwoman and Nelson was appointed to the council earlier this year after the resignation of Councilman Bill Houselog.

The other candidates are Tim Nelson and Dean Rueckert.

There is also a competitive race for Grove City mayor.

Current Mayor Melissa Drange is being challenged by Michael Bredeson, a former mayor and former city councilman, and Sean Gallagher.
