Barbara E. Schendel Sept.18, 1915 - Feb. 1, 2009
GLASTON, Conn. -- Barbara Elaine Schendel, 93, of Glastonbury, Conn., formerly of Willmar, died Sunday in Glastonbury.
The service will be in July. Memorials are preferred to the Music Fund of Vinje Lutheran Church.
She was born Sept. 18, 1915, in Granite Falls to Glenn Burnett and Mary Buhs. She grew up in Ihlen and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1933. She attended Mankato State College and then taught in several rural school districts and in the Olivia and Anoka systems.
She married Loren Schendel on Sept. 2, 1945, in Tyler. They lived in Willmar until 2006. She had completed her bachelor's degree at St. Cloud State College and taught in the New London-Spicer school district.
She was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church, the Cosmopolitan Study Group, a book club and a bridge club.
She is survived by her four children: Mary Lung'aho (and Barry Goff) of Glastonbury, Conn., Bill Schendel of Fairbanks, Alaska, Anne Schendel of Willmar and Paul Schendel (and Linda Smith) of Glen Rock, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002 and three siblings.
